Finding The Right Venue For Your Hotel Wedding Reception

One of the most common venues for wedding receptions is the hotel. It is easy to see why. At hotels you have staff who are used to serving large quantities of people, and the venue is usually of a suitable quality to entertain a large gathering. Hotels are professional, efficient and large. This does not mean, however, that they are all the same.

Choosing a hotel for your reception is simple if you follow some basic guidelines. These are centred on what is needed at a wedding reception so, if in doubt; just ask yourself what you want the reception to be like. If a hotel looks like it cannot accommodate you on this, then it probably isn’t the right one for your wedding reception.

For example, once you know roughly how many people will be attending your big event, then this should sharpen your search for a hotel considerably. If there are hundreds of people coming you will need a venue that can accommodate a large number of people, both with regards to eating and drinking, as well as having a dance floor that is large enough. So you hit the larger hotels first to get a feel for room size. Staff at these hotels should be able to give you a clear guideline as regards the size of the groups they can hold.

Due to the fact that it is a hotel, there is every chance that there will be a caterer on site that the hotel uses for such occasions. This is all well and good but check out customer feedback (they should be able to supply you with this) and even ask to eat at the hotel restaurant. This way you will know whether or not the meal is to your tastes. Then, make sure that caterers know about any special dietary requirements your guests may have.

When it comes to the decorations, if your family or indeed future spouse want to decorate the reception room in a certain way (many people do this nowadays to give their reception some personality) then make sure you check with any venues you are considering. Some have clear restrictions as to what can be done to the space. It would be awful, for example, to turn up on the morning of the reception to find that you can’t hang banners.

Perhaps most vital when it comes to choosing hotels is that you know just how busy they get. Depending on which day your reception is going to be on, you need to know if they have another booked for the same day.

You must allow at least two hours for your reception. Do what most couples do if you can, and book the venue for the afternoon into the evening. This way you can enjoy the special day to the full. Check licensing too, so your guests aren’t stuck with a dry bar at eleven o’clock at night.

Common sense, and knowing what you want, should help you choose your venue for the reception. Remember, preparation is vital. If you don’t take your time over planning, there could be a reception you won’t forget, but for the wrong reasons.

Wedding Parties!

It is maybe the most important moment of your life. You are going to, at last, make it public that you have chosen the one that you are thinking of living your entire life with, maybe have children, or maybe set out for adventurous journeys around the world! But most importantly, it is the day that you make it public, that you will be with that particular person in life or death, it happiness or sadness, in good time and bad time, and possibly, all the time! This will be a day that all your beloved ones will take photos of you, congratulate you and share your happiness, share the rejuvenation you are feeling! Therefore, it should be a day everyone must remember to be a great one!

First of all, you need someone to record the day. Remember that even if it goes brilliant and flawless, or turns out to be a complete disaster, you will be happy after some time, watching what happened all those years ago, in your wedding day. You will hold hands and laugh softly, and you will remember how much you two love each other, which would renew the spirit in your wedding again. You have watched the couples you have known before, either at their wedding day or the video of it. Did you see any of them getting angry or uncomfortable watching it? No! Because it has been so long time and no one really cares! They just remain as good memories of the past! The wife, falling on the floor because of her long dress? The groom spilling the cake on his suit, or completely causing it to fall apart? No, these are just nuisances of the time and real fun of the future, that you two are going to share memories of! So do never ever think of not recording the day, or do not think of it would be bad, in any way! I do not say do not get excited, for it will have no use.

Your parents arrive and tell about how did their wedding go. They might try convincing you to do it the same way, or maybe they advise you to do so. Your friends might tell about their own weddings and advise you certain things. Follow only the advices that would grant a safe and secure wedding. Apart from that, if you want it to be a day you will never forget, not even without the records, you MUST make it something unique! Think of it, think about your own interests and hobbies, think of your soon-to-be husband or wife’s hobbies and interests. And arrange such a thing that, you two would never forget! This is indeed going to show each other how much you want this and how important this wedding is to you. It is not a skill to do just as what someone else says, it is to find something unique and that will express your love. An unique wedding, is the essential thing for it to be legendary, so do not pass, for this might be the most sublime day of your life!

Wedding Flower – The Essence of Real Wedding

Wedding flowers play an importantly role in making that special day even more special by its elegant beauty and pleasant fragrance. Wedding flowers began as a tradition where the bride and the groom wore garlands and wreathes over their heads which were made of herbs and garlic buds. It was believed that it would get rid of any evil spirit and would secure their future together. Another tradition was to hang a kissing knot over the heads of the bride and groom while sitting at the reception table so as to bring eternal love between the couples and good luck to everyone sitting at the table.

Wedding bouquets can be chosen based on your preference and your body frame. The cascade wedding bouquet resembles a waterfall where the flowers are thicker at the top and it flows downwards. This would give the bride a much slimmer look.

The round shaped bouquet is ideal for smaller ladies creating a balance between them and the fuller bouquet. As the name suggests it is round in shape with different types of flowers tied together tightly.

The hand tied type of wedding bouquet is a bunch of flowers loosely tied together in such a way that the stems are seen. It would give the bride a casual look.

Before you decide on the flowers for your bouquet you should understand what each wedding flower symbolizes and accordingly choose them. Red roses denote true love, Calla lily stands for beauty, Red tulips signify the declaration of love, Daisy means innocence, Blue Violet indicates faithfulness and so on. Deciding on the right flower for your wedding is very important.

These days instead of fresh flowers people choose artificial flowers like porcelain bridal flowers, handmade bouquets with swarovski crystals or silk wedding bouquets which gives you exotic flowers even when they are out of season. Another advantage is that they stay longer and looks fresher all throughout the day. Some brides choose hand held posy instead of the typical bouquets. Nevertheless it would not carry the charm of fresh flowers with its refreshing fragrance.

Besides using wedding flowers as part of the bridal party bouquets it can be used as a part of the wedding decoration too in the church during the actual ritual and later in the wedding reception. Keeping in mind the color, shape, size, texture and even the fragrance of the flowers the flowers should be placed in proper placed well coordinating with the theme and the over all color balance of the wedding.

At the wedding reception too it would be quite pleasant to have a floral touch. You could place a small floral arrangement on each table which would fascinate your guests. But while choosing the flowers take special care in choosing ones that have mild scent so as not to irritate or give a bad reaction to some of your guests who may be allergic to strong smells or pollens of flowers.

Wedding flowers are without a doubt an essential feature of the wedding. Though it sounds simple, do remember, the choice of wedding flowers can actually make or break the entire celebration.

New Wedding Trends For 2010

For those getting whose 2010 New Year resolution is to get married, thoughts will be turning to what to wear, where to get married and the legion of details and arrangements which go along with the happy day. Here we are going to take a brief look at some of the fashions and trends which are emerging for weddings this year.

The Wedding Dress

Last year saw long-flowing dresses in the romantic style emerge as the most popular choice and this is set to continue. Soft fabrics with subtle floral designs are favoured and complemented with sashes, waist bands and ruffles. Bodices adorned with zircon or pearls are also extremely popular.

Dress styles are refined with strapless gowns continuing as the most popular variant. Fashion houses continue to push the modified A-line skirt, which is flared at the bottom and tapers to a slim line waist. Common alternatives are ball gowns and tea-length dresses but, the most notable development is the introduction of color, even black though color is usually more muted in tone using colors such as soft brown or platinum.

Accessories

Long wedding trains are out but veils are in as are faux fur shawls and wraps ( not real fur). Velvet, satin and pashmina are also popular but for warm weather lighter fabrics such as lace, organza, chiffon and tulle provide the best dress accessory and especially for bare arms and shoulders.

On the jewelery front, pearl necklaces and earrings are extremely popular followed by rhinestones and crystal. Crystal broaches set in the hair are also used to accent the entire effect and may also be worn on the dress.

Hair Style

There is no clear fashion when it comes to hair styles; the popular choices remain loosely pulled back for long hair. Hair adornments are popular, especially broaches and hair pins or less often, silk or lace flowers. Tiaras, combs and headbands remain popular but the trend is to become smaller and let the dress be the focus of attention with the bride’s outfit.

Wedding Bouquet

The great majority of bouquets are made by gathering flowers and tying them with a wide satin ribbon. Occasionally, the bouquets is “glammed up” by using beads, brooches, pins, pearls and other stones but a more notable development is the increasing adoption of a “rustic” look. Starfish, shells, feathers, pinecones and other natural objects are increasingly being used to complement the ensemble.

When it comes to the flowers themselves, roses dominate and there is no change for 2010. It is not uncommon to see lilies, hydrangea and orchids and less commonly, tulips though the overall style is a loose, casual style attempting to give a “just picked” appearance which differs from previous seasons. Vivid flower colors are very popular and are contrasted with the dress.

Reception Decorations

A more casual look is being sought after by using centrepieces of matching colors and tones, but variety is introduced by using different sizes and arrangements. There is greater use of natural materials such as lime and lemons, shells and pine cones and less commonly, sea glass or acrylic ice as vase fillers. Tables are further adorned using Chinese lanterns and flowering vines while the humble balloon remains as popular as ever. Disposable cameras are increasingly popular and provide a spontaneous and interesting record of the event.

What to Look For in a Wedding Photographer

When you’re not a photographer, or really hugely into photography, chances are this is the first time you will have been asked to sit in judgement over a number of wedding photographs and decide which are best. Photography is so much more than just pushing a button; good photographers are just as much experts in their own field as say a surgeon is in his.

Can you separate bad images from good? Can you tell who really knows how to use their camera and get the best from it?

Also, being a Wedding Photographer especially is much more than just taking beautiful images. A good Wedding Photographer needs to be confident and relaxed on the day to know how to blend into his surroundings, to get on with everyone he works with and fully understand how a wedding works; can you spot the difference in the pictures of those photographers who do just that from the ones just going through the motions?

Maybe not, and it is important because you are hiring this person to be around and with you on the most important day of your life. He has just one go at getting it right; there is no room for error!

So here’s a quick guide to what to look for, to help you see the good from the bad:

Blown highlights do you even know what that is?

Thought not! It’s when the photographer has trouble sorting out the lighting, he focuses on the dark area of the picture the light adjusts itself which means the darker areas can be seen, but the lighter areas all get thrown together into the ‘white’ band. This means that the brightest parts of a wedding dress, for instance, will be ‘blown’ great big areas of pure white with no detail at all. A good photographer will adjust his settings for even the trickiest of lighting situations to make sure this never happens unless they want it to.

Relaxed expressions check people’s faces. Do they REALLY look like they’re having fun? Or are they smiling for the camera whilst wishing they could go and do something less boring instead?

It is helpful to check not only the bride and groom but also the friends and relations in the photos.

Spot colour this is when a picture is black and white, with one area left in colour. It’s dated, mildly tacky and unless you’re directing Schindlers List it’s considered a big no-no by Those Who Know.

Too many ‘effects’ a less-than-perfect image can be ‘fixed up’ by copious use of soft focus filters, messing with the colours, or the previously mentioned spot colour. An enthusiastic but inexperienced photographer will often over-use all the tools at his disposal on every picture. When actually they should all stand up very well with absolute minimum of interference. That’s not say effects are bad just the over use of them.

Black and Whites should be clear white and crisp black, not all grey and muted.

To make a digital image a really good black and white requires more than simply hitting the ‘desaturate’ option.

Top Qualities to Look For in Choosing Your Best Man

Choosing your best man is probably one of the toughest decisions you have to make. The moment you announced that you’re getting married, surely all of your close friends are expecting to be asked. The tension is building up as your big day gets near, and you just want to get it done as smoothly as possible. You don’t want to make a rash decision either since your best man plays a big role in the success of your wedding. You have to put some serious thought in choosing your best man. To make it easier for you, I came up with the list of things to consider in choosing your best man.

He should live near you.

Your best man should be present in most stages of the wedding preparation. He should attend all the pre-wedding parties, he should initiate in helping you with small tasks like renting your tuxedoes, and he should be there drinking with you when you start to get cold feet. If he lives 500 miles away, it will be difficult to get his tasks done. I know you have always pictured your best friend to be the one fixing your tie and patting your back on the most important event of your life, so you should consider the distance he needs to travel to help you on you big day.

He should be responsible.

This is the main characteristic that you should look for in your best man. You do not want to be the one who keeps reminding your best man of the deadlines and things he should do, do you? That would appear like you are demanding too much. You are the busy guy and he should have the initiative to offer help in whatever aspect he can to make it easier for you. Plus, the guy will be holding the ring for you on your wedding. That would be stressful for you if you know you cannot rely on your best man be well organized.

He should be organized.

This goes hand in hand with being responsible. The guy does not have to be extremely organized that he’s bordering on having a breakdown, but he should at least be a person who is orderly and keeps a planner. Lots of planning and organizing are to be done for your wedding and your best man should be there to help you keep your sanity by keeping things in order.

He should be confident and fun.

It is quite challenging to find a guy who’s responsible, organized, and fun at the same time but confidence and charm are equally necessary. Your best man will propose a toast and deliver a speech on the day of your wedding, and ideally he should also interact with many of the guests present at the wedding. He also plans for the bachelor party and drinks with you when you are getting tired of all the wedding preparation. So you see, the best man should be energetic and lively if you want this to be a fun experience for all of you.

You are lucky if you already have a guy who has all the qualities mentioned above. One difficult wedding decision is off your list. But if you still can’t choose your guy, don’t stress yourself too much. Remember, you can always appoint the rest of the guys to be your groomsmen and assign them tasks for your wedding.

Groomsmen Gifts Under $25

Your wedding is only days away and at long last you’re about to say goodbye to the hectic wedding preparation. That was a tough one, wasn’t it? You didn’t expect a simple wedding would still require so much planning, decision-making, and money. Fortunately, your good pals were there all the way to support you and perform small errands or else you wouldn’t have made it this far in the wedding preparation.

You are one lucky guy to have such wonderful friends!, and now, before you march down the aisle, you want to make them feel special by giving them small tokens of appreciation for all their effort and for the lifetime friendship. But you have one problem: you’re finances are running dry because of all the wedding expenses. Don’t worry! Here are some inexpensive groomsmen gift ideas that cost little but look great.

Personalized Groomsmen T-Shirt ($8-$15)

T-shirts are one of the most popular groomsmen gifts for the guys aged 17-30. For this gift to be extra special, you should personalize it. You should have it printed with a catchy message or caricature that reminds all of the guys of your friendship. Thinking of a good concept may take more time. You have to really sit down and take a trip down memory lane. It should be something that all of the recipients can relate to and find memorable. If your groomsmen are not that close to you, you can go for the more standard prints.

Mugs or Glasses ($15-$20)

There are a variety of unique mugs and glasses that you can give your guys. If they are the beer drinking bunch, give them large beer mugs with their names on them. This gift is a symbol of friendship and would definitely appeal to the guys. You can also give them sport mugs, pilsner glasses, shot glasses, coffee mugs, etc. You have to know each of your recipient’s lifestyle and drink of choice so you can give them something they will use for years to come.

Army Knives ($20- $25)

It is impossible for any guy not to treasure this item. It is useful, it is functional, and it is very easy to carry around. Have your groomsman’s name engraved on the army knife and it becomes a priceless possession. There are a variety of kinds to choose from like the standard pocket knife or the more sophisticated mult-tool. Some of them even come with a built-in flashlight.

Personalized Baseball Caps ($6- $10)

Every guy loves baseball! Whether they actually play the sport or they are loyal fans of the game, they would definitely like this item. This brings back childhood memories when everything was still so carefree and nothing else matters except winning the game. Aside from it being a sporty item, it is also very useful. Again, if you want it to be extra special, personalize the caps by printing their name or initials on them.

Notice anything common with all the items I have mentioned above? You got it- they are all personalized. That is the trick to increasing the value of any gift. It doesn’t matter how much you spend on your gifts, the more important thing is the thought you put in these gifts. Personalization is always an easy way to say thank you and show your appreciation.

Choosing a Facility For Your Small Wedding

So let’s say that you have decided to go with a small wedding with just a few members on your guest list. Just because you have decided to keep your wedding small doesn’t mean that you can’t have a very memorable event. While the Royal Riviera may be out of the question, you can still have your wedding at a very memorable location. Here are five options that you should consider.

1. Your Home Church – Yes, this has been done before. However, there is a reason that this is the most popular option. You are going to return to this place on a weekly basis. Every Sunday, well almost every Sunday, you are going to be at the site of your wedding. Memories of your special day will always be right in front of you. You are already familiar with the decor and that should be helpful in planning your wedding. Most of your guests are probably nearby and it will be more convenient to them as well.

2. Bed and Breakfast – This is a very romantic option and works very well for small weddings. This option also gives you the choice of having your wedding somewhere closer or further away. Many of them are surrounded with very beautiful scenery and make very good honeymoon locations. You can find them almost anywhere. They are near beaches, in the mountains, or even in the desert if you want. Also, you can make it a tradition of going back there on your wedding anniversaries since they are affordable.

3. At a Park – Parks and gardens can provide a very wonderful backdrop for your wedding. Parks are also a very affordable option compared to most facilities. Your guests will also have a great time. If many of your guests have children, they will have more space and won’t be as likely to get antsy and disturb the ceremony. Parks are also great for planning activities for your guests. Or perhaps you or someone you know has a lovely garden on their property.

4. Patios and Gardens – If you know someone who has a lovely patio or garden, then ask them what they would charge you. Otherwise, there are many facilities that have patios or gardens for the purpose of wedding ceremonies. Many times cottages will have patios or gardens. Many of them will also cater the wedding reception at an affordable price. One of the best reasons to go with a garden wedding is that they provide excellent photo opportunities for your wedding photographer.

5. Home wedding – Home weddings seem to an overlooked option. Most people don’t have a home big enough to accommodate all of their guests even for the smallest of weddings. However, most of us do know someone with a home nice enough to accommodate a small wedding. If you have a larger home or have a good enough of a relationship with someone who does then this is an option that you should consider. Many times people with nice homes love the opportunity to show them off. They are also easier to decorate than most facilities.

How to Avoid Conflict With Your Best Man

You and your best man have known each other for so many years- he is the first one you call when your car breaks down, he is the one who goes with you when you’ve had a rough day and need to unwind, and now he’s here to assist you on the most important day of your adult life. Sometimes organizing big events can cause tension between you and your best man even if you are already very familiar with each other’s attitudes. Here are some tips that can lessen the chances of you guys having a conflict when preparing for your wedding:

Inform your best man the moment you have made the decision.

It is advisable to inform your best man that you have chosen him as soon as you’ve made your decision. Keep in mind that you are asking a busy guy to help you with major tasks for your big event. The best man’s job requires a lot of effort and time and is definitely not an easy task for anyone. When asking him to be your best man, do not sound too commanding. You are requesting for a big favor and it should be asked the way big favors should be asked- humbly. If he says yes, you are one lucky guy! Thank him right away and show your appreciation.

Have a meeting with your best man at least 3 months before the wedding.

Now that you have officially appointed your best man, it is time to get down to business. Set a date when the two of you can sit down and plan for the wedding preparations. This may take all afternoon so call your best man right away and ask him for his available schedule. Be prepared to discuss what you and your bride have planned so far and go into the details of each.

Be clear of the tasks you need assistance with

Tell your best man the areas where you need his help the most and ask him which of those he can assist you. Consider your best man’s lifestyle and schedule when assigning major tasks and deadlines. Ask him if he can commit himself to each of the tasks. It is important that he is honest so you would not have major problems later on. If he appears hesitant on one or two of the tasks, tell him it’s okay and that you’ll just do it on your own.

Come up with a detailed schedule and checklist of things to do- then stick to it.

After you’ve talked about who does which, it’s time to make a detailed schedule of the wedding preparation. Write down the tasks and set deadlines of each. Being clear and organized with the tasks and schedule saves your time and reduces stress. This is also the sure-fire way to avoid conflict since it makes everything clearer to both of you.

Update each other regularly but do not over communicate.

Like any other event, successful weddings are successful because of great communication. Call each other up to check for updates or when you have questions about certain tasks. Be careful and avoid over communicating or your friend would certainly feel more like an employee. You have known each other for a long time, so don’t let your friendship fall by the wayside. Hopefully by now you know some of the signs when he’s stressed. If you think he is, mellow down a little and go out for a relaxing night out.
